Roles and Responsibilities: The Legislative Chairperson's most important role is to monitor the progress of legislation affecting education at both the state and federal levels. Legislative issues which will impact educational, professional, and other related issues should be prioritized for presentation to local members. Related responsibilities include:
- Organizing activities that provide members with the opportunity to contact elected officials about legislation of interest, including letter-writing, e-mailing, telephoning, and personal contact..
- Attending monthly Executive Board meetings and Representative Assemblies.
- Meeting with elected officials who represent the area in which the school district lies to discuss legislative issues of interest to the Association.
- Meeting with and/or interviewing school board candidates in order to make recommendations for endorsement, in conjunction with the Political Action Chairperson.
- When appropriate, submit monthly newsletter articles by the Monday following the RA.
- Carrying out his/her duties as specified in Constitution and Bylaws.
The President will appoint the role of Legislative Chairperson for a term of three years.
