Roles and Responsibilities: The most important role of the Political Action Chairperson is to encourage the active participation of WA-WM teachers in the political process. This chairperson will form a committee which screens local school board candidates in order to recommend approval or disapproval of endorsement in primary, general, and special elections. He/She also recommends how much money should be contributed to the campaigns of endorsed candidates. Other responsibilities include:
- Attending fundraisers of endorsed candidates.
- Organizing "lit drops" for distribution of literature door-to-door
- Assisting with telephone get-out-the-vote drives.
- Putting on stamps, stuff envelopes, and address mailings.
- Hosting coffees and other types of receptions for candidates.
- Sponsoring political rallies of all kinds.
- Soliciting funds for political contributions from voluntary donations made by members of the Association.
- Seeking members to put up yard signs.
- Assisting with voter registration drives.
- Attending monthly Executive Board meetings and Representative Assemblies.
- Training building reps on strategies to solicit PAC funds from local members which supports educational legislation at a state and federal level.
- When appropriate, monthly newsletter articles will be submitted by the Monday following the RA.
- Carrying out his/her duties as specified in Constitution and Bylaws.
