New ads give voice to our advocacy for quality public schoolsBy Mary Bell
New ads will hit the airwaves this week as part of our union's ongoing media project. The ads are part of a multi-phase campaign strategy designed to build public support for our members/union while furthering the union's membership and political balance/recall Walker priorities. Building off the initial "everyday heroes" ads, the new television ads showcase our members' commitment to their schools and students. They move the message forward, educating the public on WEAC's advocacy in the fight to maintain a well-rounded education for students, including important programs like foreign language, art, music and physical education – as well as ensuring special education students have the support they need to succeed.
As you will hear in the radio ads, we bring in the voices/perspective of parents to share their concerns and support our members in painting a picture of what's happening in our schools. The ads make the case that education must remain a priority – and that we're seeing challenges in the current environment. These ads lay the groundwork to drive home an important fact: that you cannot cut $1.6 billion from education without an adverse impact on students. That's why it's important for Wisconsin to elect public officials who share our state's values.
