Roles and Responsibilities: The President of our local Association serves a one-year elected term on the WA-WMEA Executive Board. The Executive Board, or Executive Committee, is the executive authority of our Association. Executive Board meetings are held during the school year, on the first Wednesday of each month. The President appoints the chairpersons of standing committees, which include the Negotiations Chairperson, the Professional Rights and Responsibilities (PR&R) Co-Chairs, the Public Relations Chairperson, the Membership Chairperson, the Legislative Chairperson, the Political Action Chairperson, and the Parliamentarian. It is also the responsibility of the President to:
- Develop the agenda and preside over meetings. This includes monthly Executive Board meetings and monthly Representative Assembly (RA) meetings, held on the second Wednesday of each month.
- Plan, with the aid of the other officers and the Executive Board, the goals, objectives, and programs of the Local Association.
- Arrange for publication and distribution of internal information concerning Association matters. This includes the monthly Newsletter that is distributed to each of our members, and serving as a clearinghouse for NEA, WEAC, and UniServ bulletins and information.
- Exercise general supervision over the budget.
- Recruit and develop leadership among Association members and encourage local leaders to take an active role in Association policies.
- Represent the Association before the public and the press.
- Represent the WA-WMEA as a delegate to the NEA Delegate Assembly.
